The Thieving Magpie
– for Children

The children’s and youth program will continue in 2026. Following the enchanting Alice in the Black Forest, this year’s theme will be La gazza ladra – The Thieving Magpie, linked to the theme of cooking, which was important to Rossini. The text will again be written by director Eleonora Calabrò.

The Story:
Giannetto has been away for a long time. He is in love with Ninetta and the two wish to marry, but the Mayor also desires Ninetta and wants her for himself. Suddenly, she is accused of stealing silver cutlery—and the silver is truly missing! What follows is a tale of misunderstandings and a magpie, an unlikely resemblance, a curious fledgling, and an unexpected return. The magpie tells fables and hides the silverware all over the room.

It is up to the young audience members to help Giannetto and Ninetta by searching for the cutlery scattered throughout the theater by the magpie and returning it to the lovers.

Thanks to the support of the Freundeskreis Rossini in Wildbad e. V. and in cooperation with Akademie BelCanto, this project will be realized. Free admission for groups as well.
