“The Triumph of Kindness” is the subtitle of this truly enchanting opera by Rossini, and indeed the overwhelming kindness of Angelina, the angelic one, also moves the hardened misers who were not well-disposed towards her. Angelina triumphs by refusing to engage in the game of power. She rejects hatred and revenge. Like the plot, the music of this opera is overwhelming. First-class soloists of the festival, including last year’s delightful “Italiana,” Polina Anikina, perform in a new production by the festival director Jochen Schönleber. It is conducted by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra.
