A young woman is cast out by her hot-tempered husband, the Duke, after an intrigue and left to die on a rudderless boat. She survives, stranded with Tarabotto, the foreman of a mine on the border with the neighboring country. Ten years later, the Duke comes to this area in preparation for war and inspects the mine by the sea. He is still struggling with the apparent betrayal of his missing wife, to whom Tarabotto’s alleged niece bears a strange resemblance. The old enemies must quickly get rid of the dangerous doppelganger. But Tarabotto knows how to prevent this. The semiseria opera, with its sparse but effective setting of everyday objects, flotsam and jetsam and craft materials, was 2015 one of the biggest successes of the festival, also on DVD. It is now being revised and rehearsed with singers from the BelCanto Academy.
