“A warning to the jealous” is the fourth piano opera by Manuel García, the legendary tenor, composer, and singing teacher, to be performed at the festival, following Le cinesi, I tre gobbi, and L’isola disabitata. Once again, it is an effective salon piece written for the Maestro’s vocal students. The libretto, like that of Rossini’s L’inganno felice, was written by Giuseppe Foppa. The storyline was popular at the time: a pathologically jealous man is driven into his mania by his clever fiancée through supposed lovers, only to be brought to reason in the end. The production comes from the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, whose opera studio is led by the renowned tenor Francesco Meli.
